WingSwept President is Welcomed on to Strategic Advisory Board

RALEIGH, NC (February 3, 2009) - Jay Strickland, president and founder of the IT consulting company WingSwept, was appointed to the North Carolina State's Department of Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board on January 10, 2009. Strickland has been dedicated to the department since his college career, when he was earning his B.S. in Computer Science. His time at NC State provided him the knowledge and enthusiasm to have a successful career in the U.S. Air Force, launch WingSwept, and remain involved with the university for the past twelve years.

The Board is a compilation of diverse individuals with note worthy personal and professional accomplishments who are committed to the NC State programs. Member involvement is essential to the future of the Department of Computer Science because of their advising and leadership role towards the strategic plan and ability to deal head-on with current challenges. Annual meetings and ongoing teleconferences allow the members to stay informed and strive towards what is best for the department.

"Jay's industry and leadership experience combined with passion for making a difference in the lives of others make him an ideal candidate for our Strategic Advisory Board," said Mladen Vouk, head of the NC State Department of Computer Science. "We are very excited to have him join this group and we look forward to the impact he and this group will continue to have in direction of the department in the years to come."

In recent years, Jay persuaded NC State to create a Computer Science class about web technology, which would prepare students with the skills to do the type of work that is critical and highly valued in organizations similar to WingSwept. Strickland knew that implementing that class was vital in helping the students become idyllic job candidates for potential employers in the technology profession. The membership on the Strategic Advisory Board will now allow Jay to continue to make significant contributions towards the students and the department.

"I will always be loyal to the education and experiences that NC State has given me, and I am grateful to be given the opportunity to serve on the Strategic Advisory Board," says Jay, the 1997 NC State graduate. "I am eager to help shape a bright future for the young graduates that will emerge from the Department of Computer Science, so that they will be able to go forth and apply their learning as I have."
